Keep your children safe

Reports received by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), indicate many children between the ages of 2 and 14 have been trapped and killed under automatic garage doors. Other children have suffered brain damage or serious injuries when the closing door hit them failing to stop and reverse its direction. Teach children to keep their hands and fingers clear of section joints, hinges, tracks, springs and other garage door parts. Contact with a moving garage door or its hardware could cause serious injury.

Monthly Maintenance Tips

Balance Test

Periodically test the balance of your door. Start with the door closed. Disconnect the garage door opener mechanism so you can operate the door by hand. You should be able to lift the door smoothly and with little resistance. It should stay open around three to four feet above the floor. If it does NOT it is out of balance a qualified Technician should adjust this for you.

Test Garage Door Opener

Make sure your opener has a reversing feature and test the reversing feature every month. With the door open, place a 1” thick piece of wood, laid flat on the floor in the door’s path at the centre of the door. Test the balance of the door as above before performing the reversal test. Push the control button to close the door. The door opener must reverse band open the door when it strikes the wood. If the opener does not reverse have it REPAIRD or REPLACED.

Reverse Test Force Setting

Test the force setting of the opener by holding up the bottom of the door as it closes. If the door does not reverse readily, the force is excessive and needs adjusting. Your garage door opener owners manual will explain how to adjust the force and sensitivity. A qualified Technician should adjust this for you.

ANKMARVisual Inspection

Look at the garage door Springs, Rollers, Cables, Hinges and other door hardware for signs of wear. If you suspect any problems have a qualified technician make the repairsThe springs and related hardware are under high tension and can cause severe injury when handled improperly.

Track lubrication and door balance

Rollers and hinges of a garage door require periodic lubrication. Use a spray silicone or lightweight household oil according to the instructions in your owners manual.

Never remove, adjust or loosen the screws on the bottom brackets of the door. These brackets are connected to the spring by the lift cable and are under extreme tension.
